Lead Designer & Founder

A former National Geographic producer, writer, and editor turned ceramicist, Sydney is obsessed with dreaming up designs that make her chuckle.

After working on stories around the world, she became obsessed by art that spanned geographies, cultures, and time. She also longed for a creative outlet with a lifespan longer than the 24 hour news cycle. Tiles seemed like a perfect way to tap into this rich history while also creating work that would live for generations.

Many classes, workshops, and test tiles later, she started Dürt Studios in her backyard with her sassy Pomeranian, Mochi. She’s been creating designs that make her smile ever since.

A lover of naps, treats, and yapping, we don’t know where we’d be without our trusted lead studio assistant.

Although she doesn’t help with production—in fact, sometimes her incessant need for attention can do the opposite—she’s responsible for bringing good vibes to the studio. And trust us, she does a great job at her job.
